United hold off Sevilla, as Shakhtar see off Roma

Newcastle United reject Facundo Ferreyra then brought the Russian side back on level terms in the second half with his 52nd-minute equalizer.

In the other Champions League game of the night, last season's Europa League winners Manchester United held Sevilla to a goalless draw, as David De Gea starred for the visitors. "The difference was that in the first half, we played to hurt them and in second we sat back which I don't understand".

"I seem to have seen two different Roma teams today on the pitch".

Yet as the temperature dipped towards minus-nine Celsius, Argentine striker Ferreyra took advantage of poor Roma defending to score with an expertly-taken goal in the 52nd minute.

He praised my performance, I thanked him and complimented his team. We are getting a good price for a goal from the Bosnian worldwide and I think this is another good wager we can make on this game.

"The team performed well in the second half". AS Roma will nevertheless know much better than to underestimate Shakhtar Donetsk who beat the Italian side in last three encounters back in 2006 and twice in 2011.

"We didn't actually start the game too badly, and even created a good chance, but didn't have a player to poke the ball in", said Shakhtar coach Paulo Fonseca.

ROMA players wore blankets and boots to keep warm on the bench in -7C weather in the Ukraine.

Shakhtar Donetsk have won their last three games against AS Roma, two of which have come on home soil.

Shakhtar took control and Alisson made superb saves from Marlos and Taison before he was beaten by a brilliant free kick from fellow Brazilian Fred, who sent a looping shot over the wall and in off the crossbar. Shakhtar had knocked Napoli out of the Champions League, while the Giallorossi topped their group ahead of Chelsea and Atletico Madrid. For years now Shakhtar Donets has defied upheaval in this eastern European country to send a highly positive image to the world with quality football, fantastic footballers and successes that have not been left undocumented.
