Kia Motors holds framework installation ceremony for its first Indian plant

Kia Motor Corporation's President and CEO, Han-Woo Park said, "I believe Kia will bring incredible change and hope to both of the State of Andhra Pradesh and the entire India".

South Korean auto maker Kia motors on Thursday held a framework installation ceremony for its first Indian manufacturing facility in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh and announced that vehicle production - of SP Concept SUV, will begin in 2019. That said, the market launch of the SP SUV will likely be closer to Diwali next year.

The plant spread over 23 million square feet will have a capacity to produce 3 lakh vehicle annually and employ around 3,000 when fully operational.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu Thursday said Special Category Status is the state's right and that they will continue to fight for it. "We are here to build more than just great cars". It was earlier announced by KIA Motors that it will be investing around 1 billion $ in AP but it seems now, KIA is making it even larger with the plans of doubling the investment. Kia motors India, meanwhile, said that it would start recruiting the 3000 employees needed to operate the plant.

The construction work, which is going on rapidly, almost two months ahead of schedule, is expected to be completed by the end of first quarter of next year with the vehicle production scheduled sometime around middle of next year, said Park. "We want this plant to be Kia's biggest production location globally". It has laid down the structural framework for its new manufacturing facility in the Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh.

The Kia management outlined its plans to set up skill training centres which would help themin their manufacturing process.
