Student charged with making threat after social media post

The student, who hasn't been named because he is a juvenile, on Monday, Feb. 19, and Tuesday, Feb. 20, sent messages to another through Snapchat, a social media platform, threatening violence at the school, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office said in a statement Thursday.

Jeff Davis school officials contacted the sheriff's office this morning to report an incident involving a student at Hathaway High School. Two suspects were identified and have since been placed into custody at the Kalamazoo County Juvenile Home, reported.

A teenager has been charged with making a false threat of terrorism at a Detroit-area high school.

A Bear Creek High School student was charged Thursday for allegedly making a violent threat about the school on Snapchat.

"We did not feel it was a situation enough to go to that next level", he said.

There have been a number of threats in MI since 17 people were killed last week at a Florida school.

"LCPD reminds users of social media to refrain from sharing or re-posting such posts as that can create unnecessary fear and the rapid spread of misinformation", Las Cruces Police Department Public Information Officer Dan Trujillo said.

"One thing that parents, I know that most parents have probably done this already, they really need to sit down and explain to their children how serious this is", he said.

Administrators at Opelika City Schools were notified of the investigation and is working closed with the police department, according to Opelika police. She told 11 News this is in response to how prevalent school threats are becoming.
