'Muslim go back': Indian Sikh's turban ripped outside UK parliament

Ravneet in an email sent to TOI said "I was in the queue outside Portcullis House and this guy ran up to us".

Ravneet Singh along with his colleague Jaspreet Singh were waiting to meet MP Dhesi to discuss the plans for the upcoming World Sikh Environment Day on March 14 and establishing EcoSikh as an environmental charity in the United Kingdom, before which the attack took place.

He alleges the attacker shouted the abuse at him before grabbing his head covering, despite the fact he is a Sikh and therefore not a Muslim.

"Just before we got to the entrance he came up to me and attacked me", Ravneet Singh told a leading local daily.

"He was pulling at my turban strongly".

"He was a white male, however he didn't sound English".

"He made a racist comment in another language that I didn't recognise".

Singh was waiting to see a Labour MP when the incident occurred.

Singh was on a three-week trip to the United Kingdom to have a discussion about his work for an environmental group. The police has informed us that the incident was recorded in the CCTV camera and they will find out the attacker.

The vile assault prompted outrage among social media users, including Mr Desi, who was due to meet Mr Singh to discuss plans for the upcoming World Sikh Environment Day.

"Disgusted to discover today that someone filled with hatred tried to pull off the turban of one of my guests standing in line outside @UKParliament".

Labour MP Dhesi, who was to host Singh, revealed "disgust" at the event and looked for action versus the perpetrator.

According to the report, the police have confirmed being alerted at 5.20 pm about the assault outside the building adjacent to the Houses of Parliament, which is home to offices for MPs and their staff.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said it is investigating the matter but no arrests have been made.
