Netflix's Sabrina Adds Lord of the Rings Star as Aunt Zelda

According to Netflix, Otto will star in the series-regular role as Zelda Spellman. Sabrina the Teenage Witch is coming to Netflix and we have some questions.

In supremely good casting news out of Hollywood today, it's been announced that Aussie actress Miranda Otto has landed herself a role in the upcoming Netflix reboot of Sabrina The Teenage Witch.

If you remember the original series as vividly as we do, you'd remember that Zelda was the more serious aunt and Hilda was the aunt who was a bit goofy.

The character is Sabrina's other guardian alongside Zelda's sister Hilda.

Otto's Zelda has been described as the disciplinarian of the Spellman household, being a devote member of the Church of the Night. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Jon Goldwater and Lee Toland Krieger will executive produce the series, which is compared tonally to Rosemary's Baby and The Exorcist. Yet keeping in line with the dark tone of the series, Hilda is fighting against a more sinister side to herself that could come out at any moment.

The as-of-now untitled project will be based on the Archie Comics characters, and is set to reimagine the origin and adventures of Sabrina The Teenage Witch, who will be played by Kiernan Shipka.

Now that the two shows are on different networks, It remains to be seen if there will be any formal association between Riverdale and the Sabrina series. The Australian actress takes on the role previously played by Beth Broderick on the ABC and WB sitcom that aired from 1996-2003.

Also joining the cast are The Vampire Diaries' Jaz Sinclair and Doctor Who's Michelle Gomez, to play Sabrina's best friend Rosalind and teacher, Mary Wardell, respectively.
