'Wedding gift' explodes in India, killing groom and his grandmother

The cops have initiated their investigations and are looking for the person who had gifted that box to the couple during reception ceremony. The police have said that the investigation is underway.

A wedding gift given to a newly married couple exploded just days after the wedding, killing the groom and his grandmother. As per reports by ANI, the blast took place at Patnagarh in Odisha's Bolangir district. It was quite a tragic accident that killed groom and his grandmother as well. However. the blast took place when they opened it at their house five days later. The couple was married on February 18. The family members told Odisha-based television channel that someone might have kept the explosives in the gift packet triggering the explosion.

The trio was first rushed to the Patnagarh Government Hospital and later shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital, where the elderly woman succumbed to her injuries. Meanwhile, the wife of the deceased is now being treated at a government hospital in Burla. The groom's grandmother also died in the incident. "The impact of the explosion was such that the kitchen in which it was opened destroyed completely beyond recognition", said Patnagarh sub-divisional police officer, Seshadeb Bariha, adding that the faces of the three victims were the worst affected.
