Lawmakers backpedal on pension bill, send it back to committee

Despite early promises that the issue would be addressed, on the final day for consideration, it failed.

If the Senate passes the pension bill Friday morning, it would head to a House committee.

But it was a weird reason to hold up a bill created to combat an epidemic that is killing at least 16 people a day. That is about $156 million more than the current-year budget.

The deal to use the House's funding model for one year and the Senate's funding model for one year means that Harshman's proposal to increase revenue from state trust funds and put those dollars toward education will receive a brief trial run during the fiscal year that starts in July before the Senate's preference to leave funding models alone takes over in 2019.

House Bill 4187, sponsored by Delegate Geoff Foster (R-Putnam), will allow lawful owners of firearms to transport or store their firearms in locked, privately-owned motor vehicles without fear of civil liability, criminal liability or employer retribution.

Four Republican senators are expected to oppose the vote: Stan Humphries of Cadiz, who voted against the bill in committee; Tom Buford of Nicholasville; C. B. Embry of Morgantown; and Brandon Smith of Hazard.

"The idea that we are hanging onto this as somehow a sacred thing is silliness", Bevin said. On Friday, she was hailed as a hero after the Legislature passed a bill prohibiting marriage for anyone under 17.

"I believe that now is the time to take action, and we have an opportunity before us to demonstrate that the state legislature in the state of NY is taking these massacres that are happening across this country seriously", the Buffalo Democrat told News 4, pushing for the gun control measures passed by the Assembly.

Pregnant Inmates. Senate Bill 133 would improve outcomes for pregnant inmates by limiting shackling during childbirth and by allowing access to substance abuse treatment.

That seems to be just fine with the dozens of teachers who protested here, saying they will be back in Frankfort every day as long as this bill is still on the table.

"We have a zero tolerance policy for sexual harassment", Negron said.

"My heart is happy", she said afterward. That would be good, said Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi.
