Bound flight makes emergency landing at Sunport

According to KRQE-TV, Southwest flight 3562 took off from Phoenix on Sunday night and was headed for Dallas Love Field Airport.

A flight made an emergency landing at a U.S. airport, sending panicked passengers leaping from a wing on to the ground after crew members screamed at them to get away from the aircraft, passengers and officials have said.

Southwest Airlines said the diverted aircraft remains in Albuquerque while mechanics inspect the plane.

"Our people in Albuquerque worked to get customers onboard another aircraft to continue their journey to Dallas", the airline said in a statement.

Firefighters rushed to the tarmac immediately after the plane landed. The exact nature or extent of their injuries are not yet known. Also audible is someone ordering passengers away from the plane saying, "Put your phones down".

One passenger aboard the flight, a Dallas Police officer, tweeted that Southwest handled the emergency swiftly and professionally.

Local news sources report that most passengers boarded another plane for the trip to Dallas that arrived at around 1 am.

Southwest is the largest airline operating out of Tampa International Airport.

This is a developing story. Apparently an electrical fire filled the cabin with smoke forcing Southwest Airlines 3562 to land.
