Buhari's visit: Security beefed up in Makurdi

Governor Ortom said the sending of two delegations to assess extent of damage caused in the state as a result of herdsmen and farmers conflict ahead of the President's visit was a sign of hope that the IDPs would return to their homes.

According to the Presidency, Mr Buhari's visit is to commiserate with the government and people of the state over the New Year's Day attack in the state.

About 30 correspondents from various media organisations are in the state, but only seven handpicked media organisations were allowed to cover the President's visit.

I have friends here in the state, there is no way I can deliberately overlook what is happening here and other parts of the country.

The President, who arrived at the Makurdi Airport at exactly 10:43 am on Monday morning, will head to the Government House, where the stakeholders are already waiting to meet with him. I can not do that.

I did not know that IG did not stay in the state. "I am genuinely anxious about the attacks in Benue and we are doing everything to end them", he said.

The governor denied allegations that the Benue State government was keeping and training a militia group to fight Fulani herdsmen in the Benue.

He stated further that the burial will now take place next week Thursday.

Part of the president's itinerary as released by the Benue Government included a courtesy call on the fifth Tor Tiv, Prof.

The governor called on Buhari to support the enforcement of the Benue Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment law and appealed to the president to assist the state with soft loan and grant to enable the state clear it backlog of salaries.

The president said he preferred to quietly "read the riot act" as he did to the Inspector General of Police when the Benue attacks began.
