Nintendo Switch Version 5.0 Brings New User Icons and More

Now the real firmware 5.0.0 is here and its a rather boring update with no major new features.

We're working hard to ensure the Nintendo Switch version of GameMaker Studio 2 retains the already excellent functionality of the engine, and we are committed to supporting developers and studios who are keen to make the jump to Nintendo's record-breaking console.

Nintendo Switch owners get with firmware 5.0.0 24 new ARMS and the Kirby series icons for their user account.

The Switch Parental Controls app - allowing users to access Parental Controls for their console - has been updated to v1.5 on iOS (and presumably soon to Android). The default mode for entering a PIN on Parental controls hads also been modified.

Using the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app, add specific software titles to your whitelist to exclude them from the console's Parental Controls Restricted Software setting.

If your Nintendo Switch is connected to the internet, your console will download the update automatically.

If the speculations are right then Nintendo might be preparing to roll out Nintendo Switch firmware Update 5.0.0 in near future. The installation process could take minutes and the console will have to restart to complete the update. Play-Time Limit restrictions will still apply even when the software title has been whitelisted.

YoYo Games have signed a deal with Nintendo to add Nintendo Switch support to their 2D game development engine, GameMaker Studio 2.
