Odisha jawan killed in Chhattisgarh Maoist attack

Security personnel inspect the site of an IED blast where nine CRPF personnel were killed and two more were injured after Maoists ambushed them in Kistaram area of Chhattisgarh's Sukma district on Tuesday.

"The injured personnel are being airlifted to Raipur".

Earlier this month, the CRPF for the first time set up 3 permanent camps in the Abujhmadh forests in Chhattisgarh which are considered to be a Maoist hotbed, to launch "surgical" operations against the ultras, a year after the forces lost 37 personnel in 2 ambushes.

New Delhi, Mar 13 President Ram Nath Kovind today condoled the death of nine CRPF personnel in naxal violence in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district and said the country remains firm in its resolve to take on and defeat all forms of terrorism.

Calling the incident deeply distressing, Rajnath Singh said '"Today's IED blast in Sukma, Chhattisgarh is deeply distressing".

Photographs from the spot show the MPV flipped over due to the impact of blast and belongings of slain CRPF men scattered on the ground. "I pray for speedy recovery of the injured jawans. It will not lower the morale of security forces". They will be taken to Raipur for treatment.

Again at about 12:30 pm, the Maoists targeted another team from the 212 battalion of the CRPF between Kistaram and Palodi in Sukma in which an MRAP was blown up with an improvised explosive device.

Sukma, considered one of the worst insurgency-hit regions of the state, has witnessed several dreaded attacks on security forces in the past, particularly in summer season during which rebels carry out an annual tactical counter offensive campaign.

Soon after the incident, reinforcement was rushed to the spot, he added saying that further details were awaited.

Surjewala said BJP president Amit Shah who had past year started the party's expansion plan from Naxalbari should instead have planned how to tackle Naxalism with the prime minister.

In April past year, 25 CRPF jawans lost their lives in a Maoist attack.
