76ers fans give Brent Celek standing ovation

76ers fans give Brent Celek standing ovation

His teammates and fans were sad to see the longest-tenured player go. An 11-year veteran, Celek was drafted by the Eagles in 2007 out of the University of Cincinnati.

Speaking of Ertz, the Eagles must now find another reliable tight end option to play behind him with Celek gone.

Celek set career highs in 2009 with 76 receptions for 971 yards and eight touchdowns.

Celek led the Eagles with three touchdown catches in the 2008 postseason, including two in the NFC title game loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

"Brent Celek defines what it means to be a Philadelphia Eagle", the team said in a statement. "Brent embodies the City of Philadelphia's temperament and character with his toughness and grit".

Robinson was one of four former Florida State stars to get a Super Bowl ring this season - joined by defensive tackle Timmy Jernigan, linebacker Nigel Bradham and fellow defensive back Ronald Darby, all of who have signed long term deals with the team. Unfortunately, in this business we are forced to make hard decisions, especially this time of the year.

After the season, Celek mentioned wanting to play another year, but without question a day will come when he retires in Philadelphia.

As for Celek, he reportedly isn't planning to retire just yet and intends to play on next season, even if it's not with the Eagles. He's also broken up 27 passes.
