Beast from the East to bite again as snow heads for UK

The Met Office has issued a warning for the region on Friday and Saturday - as the Beast from the East is set to return.

The Chief Forecaster's assessment said: "Rain will increasingly turn to hill snow above around 200m during Friday evening".

Forecasters are predicting that rain will turn to snow on higher ground across much of the east of the United Kingdom on Friday evening and into Saturday.

The cold snap may well last into next week and there is likely to be at least some snow in parts of the UK.

"We start to see colder air coming in from the east then, as we go through Friday and into Saturday, when that cold air meets that band of rain on the east side of the country", she said.

Don't put away those winter hats and gloves just yet: parts of the United Kingdom are set for rain, high winds and more snow this week, forecasters have warned.

The Midlands had heavy snowfall earlier this month.

"As a result some places may see temperatures fall to only a few degrees above freezing - this most likely across the east of the UK".

On Sunday the "feels like" temperature is forecast to be -7C.

"Saturday, turning much colder with a strengthening easterly wind, some snow showers possible later".
