Gas prices fall but still highest for March in four years

The Detroit-area's average daily gas price was about $2.56 per gallon, about 4 cents more than last week's average. But, gas prices are expected to go up in the coming weeks.

MI is 11th in the nation for most expensive daily gas prices and 1st in the nation for biggest change in weekly average price.

That's also up about 24 cents from this time past year.

New Orleans- $2.26/g, down 2.8 cents per gallon from last week's $2.29/g.

- Drivers are again seeing lower prices at the pump in New Jersey even as motorists along the West Coast and throughout the Midwest are starting to see higher gas prices. The national average has decreased 5 cents during the last month and stands 22 cents per gallon higher than this day one year ago.

"Gasoline should slide a few cents more this week, based on last week's decline in wholesale prices", AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins said.

Falling crude oil inventories and steady prices for crude remained the rule for the week ended March 9.

Tucson- $2.28/g, up 1.3 cents per gallon from last week's $2.27/g.

US crude production continues to boom and be a closely watched figure, hitting another record at 10.37 million barrels per day last week, AAA said.

Crude oil is also $14 per barrel more than past year, preventing a plunge at the pump.

"Oil prices remain volatile yet several dollars off recent highs". "Gasoline prices remain in somewhat of a limbo as a result, with a mixed bag at pumps across the United States". "Thus far, we have seen a market that's lacked solid upward movement when it usually sees exactly that".

DeHaan also said he expects gas pries to head higher this spring.
