Xiaomi Redmi 5 set to launch today

Xiaomi is gearing up to launch the Redmi 5 in India today.

We have already come across a teaser page posted on Amazon India tipping that the Redmi 5 will be exclusive to the online retailer. The upcoming Redmi 5 is being promoted by Xiaomi on social media as a "Compact Powerhouse", with features such as big display, long battery life, fast processor, slim design, and good selfie camera in focus. And as the name suggests, the Redmi 5 will be the successor to the popular Redmi 4 smartphone launched in India past year. The Redmi 4 was introduced in three RAM and storage variants: 2GB/16GB, 3GB/32GB and 4GB/64GB for a price of Rs 6,999, Rs 8,999 and Rs 10,999 respectively. Earlier, Xiaomi during their previous sales of Redmi Note 5 (not Redmi 5), the brand announced that they will not fancy Cash on Delivery (COD) payment mode in order to prevent unauthorised reselling.

Both Redmi Note 5 and Note 5 Pro will be available in gold, black, lake blue and rose gold body shades.

Although Xiaomi hasn't officially revealed which device is being launched Wednesday, the upcoming smartphone is in all likelihood the Redmi 5.

The 3 GB variant of Redmi Note 5 will be available for Rs 9,999, while its 4 GB variant can be priced at Rs 11,999. Those who are interested can sign up for the live stream of Redmi 5 on the Xiaomi website by logging into their accounts or using their Facebook account. It has 32GB/64GB of storage which is expandable through a MicroSD card in a hybrid dual-SIM configuration where second SIM slot doubles as a MicroSD card holder.

The Redmi 5 sports a 5.7-inch HD+ IPS display with a resolution of 720x1440 pixels and comes with an 18:9 aspect ratio.

Redmi Note 5 runs on MIUI 9 which is based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat and powered by a 1.8GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor coupled with 3GB/4GB RAM.

In the camera department, the Redmi 5 comes with a 12-megapixel rear sensor that has features like f/2.2 aperture, PDAF, and LED flash. The Redmi 5a Prime has a hybrid 32GB ROM and a 3GB RAM while its counterpart, the Redmi 5a houses 16GB ROM and 2GB RAM. Fueling the smartphone is a 4,000mAh battery.
